DANDY WARHOLS

A lazy Sunday afternoon. Just the right atmosphere, then, for St Etienne-induced slumbers to be rudely interrupted by the Dandy Warhols' relentless rock and roll juggernaut.

Yes, they may appear as minor rockers, so desperate for publicity that they'll prostitute their keyboard player's breasts for a bit of easy press, but this clumsy exterior belies one of the liveliest, most exhilerating rock bands touring today.

No subtlety in this set, then, save for the exhibitionist Zia's bubble blowing between songs. Rapidly deploying the singles 'Every Day Should Be A Holiday' and 'Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth' one after another.

Lead singer, Courtney, intersperses the layered guitar assault with a witty and amusing banter that a certain Fran Healy would be wise to study and inwardly digest. "There's only one route to salvation," he deadpans, "and that's a spanking."

The band are obviously having fun, and their enthusiasm translates into a blistering live performance. The most kick ass rock and roll band of the day, by some distance. Oh, and Zia managed to keep her clothes on throughout the entire set - naked protesters, take note.
